Senior Quantity Surveyor
Water Infrastructure | AMP8 Programme
Location: Oxfordshire
We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing delivery team supporting a major programme of water and wastewater infrastructure works across the South East.
This is an opportunity to play a key commercial role across a varied portfolio of projects, from essential capital maintenance through to large-scale civil engineering and infrastructure schemes delivered as part of the AMP8 investment programme.
The Role
Reporting into the Commercial Leadership team, you will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of projects from early delivery through to completion and close-out.
Working closely with operational and project teams, you will help drive commercial performance, manage risk, influence decision-making and ensure projects are delivered efficiently and in line with contractual obligations.
This role suits someone who combines strong commercial judgement with a practical, collaborative approach and enjoys being close to project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of multiple projects throughout the full project lifecycle
- Prepare, review and issue contract-compliant notices, correspondence and commercial documentation
- Identify, manage and communicate commercial risks and opportunities to project and senior leadership teams
- Prepare and agree applications for payment and support assessment of payment certificates
- Manage change control processes including variations, compensation events, delays and extensions of time
- Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts and commercial performance updates
- Support project teams with cost management, forecasting and financial decision-making
- Negotiate and administer subcontract and supply chain agreements
- Contribute to procurement activity and support tender evaluations where required
- Drive value engineering initiatives and promote commercially informed delivery decisions
- Maintain robust commercial controls, governance and reporting standards across projects
- Support dispute avoidance through proactive contract administration and stakeholder engagement
- Champion health, safety and environmental standards across all activities
About You
You are commercially astute, confident working in a project environment and comfortable challenging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
You will ideally bring:
- Proven experience operating at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level within infrastructure, utilities or construction environments
- Strong commercial and financial management capability across project delivery
- Experience managing valuations, applications for payment, forecasting and contract administration
- Working knowledge of change management, claims and commercial risk processes
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial principles
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to balance attention to detail with a practical, delivery-focused mindset
- A proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Professional membership or working towards accreditation with RICS, CICES or equivalent is desirable
